Located North of Tikchik, Chikuminuk Lake is the largest lake in the Tikchik Lakes System. Accessible only by floatplane Chikuminuk Lake is considered the Jewel of the Wood-Tikchik State Park. The beauty and grandeur of Chikuminuk Lake has been recognized by the state of Alaska, which designated it the only lake in the park that is non-motorized. Float planes can land; however, outboard motors are banned. It is the perfect lake for kayaking and experiencing the wilderness.
Chikuminuk Lake is higher in elevation and is surrounded by tundra. The eastern part of the lake has gentle cascading hills which are perfect for wildlife viewing and hiking. The Western end of the lake has steep mountains reaching for the sky. The lake is abundant with Arctic Char and Lake Trout. Salmon are prevented from entering the lake from the falls and rapids on the Allen River which drains into Cheaukuktuli lake to the south.
Our location, close to Chikuminuk Lake, allows us to offer flights and kayak rentals for exploring this incredible wilderness. As a policy, we never book two groups at the same time on the lake to preserve the wilderness values.
